Chiara D'anna

Chiara is an award-winning actress and theatre director best known for her collaboration with writer and director Peter Strickland in the films ‘Berberian Sound Studio’ and ‘The Duke of Burgundy’.


For Panta Rei Theatre, Chiara wrote and directed Rocinante! Rocinante! (2010-2011) supported by Youth in Action EU Funding for the Arts; Samhain Night (2011), Don Quixote! Don Quixote! (2012) winner of the Charlie Harthill Special Prize, Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2012; A Floating Caravan Under the Moon (2014/15) and the acclaimed Don’t You Dare! (2018/20) winner of the Concorso Teatrale Internazionale della Città di Chivasso with Best Show, Best Director, Best Actress and Audience Award. Other credits include the English adaptation of The Holiday Trilogy by Carlo Goldoni (2015); The Mountain Giants (2019 and 2016) and Henry IV (2011) by Luigi Pirandello; Mistero Buffo (2017) and Accidental Death of An Anarchist (2018) by Dario Fo at the Rose Theatre, Rose Bruford, London. She received the Aquilegia Blue National Prize as Best Newcomer with her directorial debut in 2002.


Chiara performed at the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival, Spitalfields Festival, Voilà Europe Festival, Tristan Bates Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Festival; the Pleasance Theatre, the CLF Art Café, Bussey Buildings and at the Riverside Studios in London; the CrisisArt Festival, Arezzo; Festival Teatrale Europeo, Roma; Torino Fringe Festival e al Concorso Teatrale Internazionale al Teatro Civico di Chivasso in Italia.; al Gardzienice Theatre Centre in Polonia e al Teatro Gobetti (Teatro Stabile di Torino),


Chiara is one of the leading Commedia dell’Arte practitioners in the UK.  Her expertise is Physical Theatre and Devising. She is Associate Lecturer at Rose Bruford College, Goldsmiths University, RADA, East15 Acting School, the Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design and the Accademia dell’Arte in Arezzo, Italy.
